In some situations, a sequence of weights will be created. There are a couple of general principles about how this should be done:
- Create design weights first, and then use these as an input into rim weighting or calibration (some algorithms permit the user to provide an existing weight as an input).
- Creating multiple weights and multiplying them together. In particular:
- If you are confident that there will be no correlation between design weights and other weights, then you can multiply them together.
- If wanting to perform volumetric weighting, first create a weight variable that ignores volume, and then create the weight to be used in the analysis by multiplying this weight variable with the estimate of volume.
